How NOT Getting Things Done is Good for You
– and how a water filter helps.

60,000 pieces of information, 3000 marketing messages, 68 emails, 27 phone calls and 19 interruptions IN ONE DAY. I collected these anecdotal time management statistics from various interviews and articles. This an average day for a business person. And I know many people who get 100s of emails and over 50 calls a day.

We have to deal with more information in one day than your grandparents did in about 80 years!

Your Time management approach in today's world Must be very Different than 30 years ago or even 10 years ago.. Back then there was a reasonable chance you could Get Things Done. There was the possibility you could catch-up. Not anymore!

You see, those 3,000 marketing messages, the emails, calls and interruptions are all trying to get you to do something.

Effective time management in the 21st Century is about filtering all those inputs and being able to quickly and easily reject most of them as irrelevant or not important enough to warrant your precious time. This not easy. The messages are clever, tempting, persuasive and sometimes very assertive.

Let me use an analogy. Picture a water filter jug for a minute. This jug filters the water of all the impurities and chemicals that are in tap water. We can't actually see all these impurities, but the health experts tell us they are there. The filter catches the bad stuff and lets the good stuff through.

You need to train your mind to be like the filter.

I find that people, perhaps you, end up with many tasks on their To-Do list from the 3000 marketing messages, 68 emails and so on. Way too many tasks and it is impossible to get them all done. To use your time wisely you need to filter out 99% of these messages. You need to be able to do this in a quick, simple way that flows, like water through the water filter.

When the filtering process is slow and labored it causes you pain and stress. And lots of wasted time.

Your time is precious. Start NOT Getting Things Done. Change to 21st Century time management and create an an effective filter for the information overload you are faced with everyday.

Laugh out Loud
And then the fight started

My wife and I were sitting at a table at my high school reunion,
and I kept staring at a drunken lady swigging her drink as she sat alone at a nearby table.
My wife asked, 'Do you know her?' 'Yes,' I sighed, 'She's my old girlfriend.
I understand she took to drinking right after we split up those many years ago, and I hear she hasn't been sober since.'
'My God!' says my wife, 'who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?'
And then the fight started...

-----------------------------

My wife and I are watching 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire' while we were in bed.
I turned to her and said, "Do you want to have sex?" "No," she answered.
I then said, "Is that your final answer?"
She didn't even look at me this time, simply saying "Yes."
So I said, "Then I'd like to phone a friend."
And that's when the fight started....

Have some fun today :-)
