Live in the Now! -

Do you live in the now or do you find yourself wasting time? Time is a precious GIFT, but most people still lose track of time.

In the past month our family has had two experiences of time running out. The mother of a good friend that I have known since primary school passed away. My daughter’s friend at school lost her father from a sudden heart attack aged just 48. Time really is precious!

Yet most of us feel we have an abundance of time. No matter how we spent our time today we will get another 24 hours tomorrow.

BUT I think that we are missing a key point when we live this way. Each minute spent is a minute that you never get back again. And we don’t really know whether we do have another day.

Time is very precious, though we rarely treat it that way.

Brian Dyson former CEO of Coca Cola said it this way

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is a gift. That’s why they call it “The Present”.

What each of us is doing this minute is the most important moment in our lives. You chose to invest your time and energy in to THIS activity right now, rather than in any other.

Dennis Waitley, author of The Psychology of Winning, says there are two days we should never worry about "The first is YESTERDAY has passed forever beyond our control All the money in the world cannot bring back yesterday. We cannot undo a single act we performed or erase a single word we said. Yesterday is gone."

"The other day we should not worry about is TOMORROW, with its possible adversities, its burdens, its large promise, and its poor performance. Tomorrow is also beyond our immediate control."

"This leaves only one day, TODAY. Anyone can fight the battles of just one day. It is only when you and I add the burdens of those two awful eternities - Yesterday and Tomorrow - that we break down."

It is not the experience of Today that drives us mad, it is remorse and bitterness for something which happened yesterday and the dread of what tomorrow may bring. Let us therefore… Live TODAY - Live in the NOW.

Action Exercise:

Each day for the next week, take time to enjoy the moment. Schedule it - Plan it. Maybe with the kids. Maybe over a coffee or a wine. Maybe at a favourite beach or garden. Spend just 15 minutes being totally absorbed in what yu are dong and where you are. That is living in the now.

When you have done this reflect on your experiences. How owuld it feel to live more moments like that? You can if you want to.
